The Jobs Of Teenagers And Elders Up In Smoke

Published by Aydan Corkern in Culture and Society, 1 month 2 weeks 6 days 16 hours 37 minutes 34 seconds ago

Do you realize that there are actually two groups of people in this country that suffer from the lack of work more than others? If not, these people are the older middle class and our teenagers that might be just starting into the work force. These two groups have one thing in common that is always against them and that is their age. A lot of companies don't want to hire older middle class people because they will have to pay for all of their training only to lose this employee at their retirement age, so they just don't want to have to spend this time and money. With hiring a teenager or someone that isn't over 18 years, there are many reasons that companies won't hire them. The main reason is the young person's lack of experience in the job field, and with the small amount of hours that they are allowed to work, most companies will overlook them.

By the time most teens reach their twenty's, they are so tired of trying to find a job that they can make a living at that they look at themselves as worthless. Sometimes, they might just very well take the first thing that comes along where they won't be happy. Older workers who aren't at retirement age yet are just as upset as the younger ones. I feel that if a person, young or old, is doing their job and doing it right and not getting into trouble, then the company should just leave them alone to work as long as they want to.

Most people feel worthy when they are working. It builds their self-esteem about themselves as a whole. If the companies keep taking this away from these two classes of people, they will find out that they are not only hurting themselves but the economy as a whole. I feel this way very strongly as I'm at the age where this would be happening to me if I was not working out of my home. I'm a 53-year-old woman; there are two strikes against me. I only have a high school diploma and no further formal education. If I were to go looking for a job my choices would be slim to none.
Everybody, regardless of age, gender, or race, should be treated equally and given the opportunity to work. As long as they are doing a good job, then there should be no problem at all.
