Tips In Teaching Our Kids Good Characters

Published by Jim Brown in Parenting, 1 month 3 weeks 8 hours 27 minutes 33 seconds ago

There are just some things that are not being taught at school which you as a parent would have to do yourself. These are good characters not being incorporated into academic syllabus. While the school is present to teach the children facts and information, you are present to fill in the gaps. Of course, you can never teach all good characters at once. It will take time and constant effort before your kids will truly understand what you are trying to teach them. There are simply a lot of good character traits that should be implanted in our kid's mind and I am sure you will discover them in your own time and pace. But right now here are few.

Teach your kids good choices. I find it sometimes hard to imagine why some people will say they are bored when in fact there are a lot of things to do but with so little time. However, basically for our kids they just do not know how to manage things for themselves. Teach them slowly how to organize things and recognize what is important for the meantime and what can be done later. In other words teach them how to prioritize. This is easier to teach if you have been showing them daily what it means to prioritize and choose things that should be done in urgency and what can be done later on or even perhaps you can make them recognize the importance of most from the least.

Teach your kids how to handle criticism. You can basically teach this to your child by allowing them to learn from their mistakes. Allow them to grow in their own pace not because of you being a pushover to them. Show them how important it is to admit to their own mistakes and confront the criticism in a positive manner. By being their good example of how to handle effectively all criticism, they can easily follow what your standard of doing things. However if you tell them one thing and start doing the otherwise, all effort of teaching them the character will be put to vain. Teach them importantly that they are not expected to know everything so if someone criticizes their work they will be able to constructively confront the situation.

Teach your kids how to work in team. Allow them to ask for help whenever they need it. Show them that you are available anytime to help them should they find something hard and needs your assistance. Let them know the importance of a team may it be his team with you or the team he has with his friends. Show them properly that no man is a complete island on his own. He must know how to connect with other people so that he can ask for help anytime or maybe just spend some quiet times together. Let them know that it is perfectly alright to ask for help from time to time and that it is never a sign of weakness but of strength. It is the kind of strength that not everybody has ever mastered.
